The impact report and social impact statement of Ogyre.
From 2020 to the present, we have seen Ogyre evolve and vary, somewhat like the currents from which the company takes its name. From a realization of our founders, Andrea Faldella and Antonio Augeri, has come a reality that is bringing more and more companies and people together with us on the boat of change. However, the journey still seems long. Surely, the goal will be to accelerate the pace by engaging new sailors intent on rowing toward a sustainable future and a healthier, more welcoming planet.
Along the way, we have cut a number of milestones that have proven critical in legitimizing the transparency of our mission. First and foremost, in 2022, Ogyre completed the requirements to achieve B Corp certification, which certifies that certified companies meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profits and their own economic goals. B Corps like Ogyre are accelerating a global cultural shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy, with the goal of positively impacting employees, customers and society.
This is precisely why we have made Fishing For Litter our strength, going so far as to incorporate more and more companies to support Ogyre's global fleet in recovering waste from the sea. With 45 fishing vessels involved and 4 ports open around the world, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in 2022, we recovered 178 tons of litter lost at sea, 46 tons of which were through collection campaigns funded through our partnerships alone. Of this haul, we managed to recycle 21 tons, about 12 percent of the total, generating a direct and indirect economic benefit of about 3 million euros.
The goal remains always just one, to recover waste, and during this 2023 we aspire to open new ports in Italy and increase fishing communities in Brazil and Indonesia. In fact, by the end of the year, Ogyre aims to have 90 vessels involved to reach a total of 350 tons of trash collected from the oceans. In this regard, there is a sense of positivity from the Ogyre team, which has seen its departments expand this year thanks to the valuable work of newcomers, about the impact the company is having on the marine environment and society. Likewise, employees showed appreciation for the various team-building activities that took place to create collective consciousness.
This is what emerged in Ogyre's non-financial report of 2022. As mentioned earlier, there is still a long way to go, but we look forward to the end of the year to see our goals exceeded in the hope of accelerating the pace toward a future where the oceans will no longer be the last resort for our waste.
